Recommended films :D

I like foreign films so beware - I find the style leaves nothing at a loose end and really plays on human emotion and behaviour in EACH genre, rather than using slapstick and sex scenes for comedy, or shock and gore for horror...

(I do try to find English trailers but it is quite difficult)

Les Rivieres Pourpres:
A bit of a freaky storyline, but the anticipation and adrenaline you get watching it is unlike anything else, brilliant story and many twists. (The crimson rivers in English) Directed by Kassovitz, famous for 'La Haine'
Trailer

El Laberinto Del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth):
Really worth a watch but many people don't get it. Probably needs to be watched more than once. Pretty dark and emotional but not overly scary. Deals with various themes and based at the time of the Spanish Civil War, really isn't what you'd expect, and certainly not for children as it appears. Directed by Guillermo De Toro.
Trailer

El Orfanato (The Orphanage):
Possibly the most terrifying film I've ever watched and ever will watched. You get drawn into the madness and become a part of it. A horror film that is intensely well done and is sickeningly scary in more than one way, the last twenty minutes are near torture, but if you get that far you can't stop watching. It is amazing and horrifying. Worth watching even if you hate horrors, just because it's so well done. If you love them then you can't forget this one! Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, Presented by Guillermo De Toro
Trailer

La Haine (The Hate):
Story about violence in an urban area of Paris dealing with gang violence and street culture. All in black and white, and deals with various themes. Not at all like 'kidulthood' or anything like that, very moving in some parts. Worth watching but it's quite long. Kassovitz Again
Trailer

MicMacs a tire-larigot (Micmacs non-stop shenanigans):
Completely absurd and quirky, as the protaganist gets shot in the head and tries to seek revenge for that an another problem that he has, quite comical with a kind of other-worldy twist. Directed by Jeunet (of course)
Trailer

Amelie:
Follow Amelie's life as she goes through a range of odd events to find love. Completely bizarre but also very entertaining and quite sweet in many parts. Definitely worth watching. Jeunet (Kassovitz plays Nino)
Trailer

Delicatessen:
Post apocalyptic France and a butcher who kills the residents of his block. Strange film blending a sick fantasy with comedy, quite watch-able but a bit crazy, give it a shot ;) Caro & Jeunet
